When "friends" let you down...
by Crumpet inhave you ever been in a position where you really needed your friends - ie a relationship break down, or some other event and expected your friends to rally and support you.
only to find that those friends are nowhere to be seen or heard and when you tentatively enquire how they are in the hope for some kind response you get - "oh well you'll get over it.
" or words to that effect and by email.. i have as you can guess a reason and recent experience of my own that i'll share later, but i wondered how do you handle that?

I do know the difference between good time friends and not.
Unfortunately, very few friendships are 100% reciprocal. As in most relationships, there is a giver and there is a taker as well.
You were able to give to your friend when she was in trouble, but when the tides were reversed she just wasn't the giving kind, it seems. Funnily enough, she may well be the giver in other friendships. But not to you, I'm afraid.
I've been through a similar situation in the last couple of years; I listened for hours on end to a mate who's marriage had just gone belly-up, and sat through endless tirades about his scheming and unfaithful wife. Fast forward to last Spring when my own marriage bit the dust, and he really couldn't have been less interested!
We're still on good terms, but these days he's not as big as I thought he was.

i found a freaking slim slice of meat at a reasonable price and some frozen veggies.. so i check out and think...hah, i made it with 10 dollars left.

Sparklet,
Sometimes you are just too giving for your own good, but you wouldn't be you if you weren't.
Ummm...does that make any sense? At all?

A Big Warm Hearted Thanks!
by bigwilly into those here that mad me feel welcome upon my recent return, i feel a bit like the prodigal son (poor analogy).. after making this my first board over a year ago, i have meandered the exdub cyber community and made many good friends as well as meeting some truly amazing people.
i feel i've established myself amongst the discussion boards and earned a reputation of sorts (hopefully positive).
i have always checked in here, tho sporatically, and recent board politics and accessability have led me back here.

"Timbo you make me laugh so hard, big brother."
You're not the first woman to laugh at me, Liv. I just thought you should know that......

Crumples,
I was called Timbo when I was teenager, but it's only since someone called me it on the boards last year that I've adopted it again.
Mind you, I'll answer to most things if the truth be known!

"Timbo a psychologist?"
Sorry, BW, my mistake.
I meant to say that I was a psychiatric patient, of course......

puck,
Nice to meet you at last.
I'm BW's psychologist by the way, and I think you should know that ever since you robbed him of his manhood at such an impressionable age, he's been seen at various locations wearing nothing but a skirt.
This is not a pretty sight as you'll appreciate.

Just caught a quick glimpse of the Grammy's gig.
Sting's voice has lost none of its power and range. Cool indeed!

Why do people act so weird on the internet?
by serendipity ininteresting article that doesn't really explain why people are weird, but indicates that the "social" rules are different from real life.
what's interesting to me is how we justify behaving differently online.. .

I think that sometimes people forget that their online friends are not just entities living within their own monitor, but are actually real people with lives of their own.
Sometimes there isn't even time to type 'brb' if a domestic crisis suddenly occurs, and for a person to get offended so easily says a lot about them themselves. Obsessive is the word that springs to mind.
